2015: Group frowns at alleged imposition of Obuh

By Festus Ahon, Asaba

AS the jostling for who becomes the Governor of of Delta State in 2015 thickens, the Assembly of Delta PDP leaders and stakeholders, yesterday, frowned against the alleged imposition of Mr Anthony Obuh as the next governor by Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.

The group in a statement after its emergency meeting held at Emede, Isoko South Local Government Area of the State said; “a serious political crisis would soon erupt in Delta State PDP over the imposition of Mr Anthony Obuh by Governor Uduaghan”.

The group in the statement signed by its Chairman, High Chief Paul Eriri vowed to oppose the alleged practice of imposition, which it described as “political ebola,” expressing hope that President Goodluck Jonathan, Chief Tony Anenih, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu would prevail on Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan to withdraw the purported endorsement of Mr Anthony Obuh.

Observing with deep sorrow and displeasure, the alleged use of government officials and facilities to promote and protect Mr Obuh, the group urged the State House of Assembly to investigate the issue immediately. The group however expressed its commitment to the re-election of President Goodluck Jonthan in 2015.

In a swift reaction, a member of the PDP in Isoko South Local Government Area, Mr Lucky Akpezi described the allegation of Mr Anthony Obuh’s imposition by Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan as incorrect, adding that; “the Obuh I know is running as an independent aspirant just like every other aspirant in the governorship race”.

Insisting that Mr Anthony Obuh is not a candidate of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, Akpezi said; “Obuh is a Deltan and he is very qualified to govern the State giving his years of experience in the public service.”

“So people should put a stop to this story of Obuh’s imposition. The man has the right to aspire; so his aspiration should not be tied to the apron string of the Governor. The Governor is the leader of the party and to that extent everybody running for the governorship is his candidate.

“Therefore, Obuh should be given an opportunity to exercise his right as diligent, loyal and a card carrying member of the PDP”.
