AWC: Cash crunch hits Falcons

By Ben Efe, Windhoek

The Super Falcons have not been paid their winning bonuses and allowances since their victory over hosts, Namibia, but the Nigerian women have refused to be distracted, because they are looking at the bigger picture of reaching the final and winning the trophy.

Sports Vanguard checks in Windhoek revealed that the Nigeria Football Federation and the National Sports Commission made provision for the first two group matches.

“That notwithstanding the girls are unbowed. They are very well behaved and this is because they are looking at winning the tournament and get a rewarding reception from President Goodluck Jonathan,” said one of the team officials.

Meanwhile the team is feeling the crunch. Coach Edwin Okon was seen at a Nigerian restaurant here in Windhoek to order for local food. He was heard grumbling about his team’s inability to have money to spend.

The Sports Minister Tammy Danagogo and Nigeria Football Federation President, Amaju Pinnick are being expected here to bring some relief to the team. It was gathered that the duo have made their coming conditional and that is: the Super Falcons must have to qualify for the final.
