Ijaw Monitoring Group, IMG, has described the untimely death of General Patrick Aziza, President General, Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, as a dark chapter in Urhobo history in particular and the Niger Delta in general.
The group in a tribute by Comrade Joseph Evah, said the Ijaw lamented that General Aziza’s untimely departure at a time the Niger Delta was looking for more courageous and committed leaders to groom the younger generation was shocking and sad.
He said: “The death of this great general one year after the death of another great star of Urhobo nation, Senator Pius Ewherido, has depleted the leading political lights of Urhobo nation.”
“General Aziza’s death is a very sad and heavy loss, especially to those who meant well for the Niger Delta.’’
The Niger Delta activist urged people of the region to remain united despite the unfortunate calamity, adding that the period of Aziza’s burial would be used as a time of sober reflection as the region faces a trial period in the history of Nigeria.
