WARRI—Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, has called on government at all levels to provide jobs and constructively engage unemployed youths in the Niger Delta, to bring kidnapping, pipeline vandalism and other vices to an end in the region.
The council, in a statement by its spokesman, Mr. Eric Omare, said there was need for government at different levels to constructively engage the youths.
He said: “The IYC also commends Ijaw youths from Eastern Zone of the IYC who provided useful information and worked with security agencies towards the release of the kidnapped Madam Agama. The IYC calls on government to constructively engaged youths of the Niger Delta to address the increasing spate of kidnapping, pipeline vandalism and other social vices.
“While the IYC condemns criminality in Ijawland and other parts of the Niger Delta, we strongly believe that provision of jobs and other means of constructive engagement is the panacea to these problems.”
