Super Falcons captain Evelyn Chiedu Nwabuoku has called on the Nigeria Football Federation to endeavour to organize quality international friendly matches if the senior national women team is to make any impact at the FIFA 2015 Women World Cup in Canada. Nwabuoku argued that despite the quality the Super Falcons displayed at the AWC in Namibia, the team still needs to improve and become competitive at the world level.
“It is the dream of every player to do well at every tournament they participate in. But the world cup is quite a different kettle of fish; it is not like the women Nations Cup.
“We must have to make improvement to our game. We can’t play the same way we did at the AWC at the world cup. When we go back home we must have to work hard and improve on our game.
“This is where we need the NFF and those concerned to organize friendly games. It is through these games that our coaches will have the opportunity to access the players and correct our mistakes.
Nwabuoku who plays for Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt noted that there were a lot of skilful players in the Super Falcons team that could take the team to a reasonable height at the Canada 2015 World Cup.
“This is a new team compared to the one that was in Equatorial Guinea 2012. We are still a work in the progress; the only thing left for us is to keep getting better with every match we play.
“We can do better than what we achieved in Namibia.”
She expressed confidence in the coaching crew led by Edwin Okon. However, she would love a situation where female coaches are involved in the future. As it is the trend with leading nations in women football.
“We are okay with our coaches they are doing well. But in the future we want to see more female coaches involved.”
