2015 Polls: GLEEHD Foundation holds a 12 week election series

GLEEHD Foundation, a not-for-profit international organization headquartered in the United Kingdom with an African Secretariat in Nigeria is putting together a 12 week Election Series towards the 2015 polls in Nigeria.

The Foundation which is chaired by Dr. Christopher Kolade, Former Nigerian High Commissioner to the UK with an advisory board chaired by Chief Mrs. Opral Benson, Liberian Honorary Consul to Nigeria is established to promote Africa’s Renaissance by fostering Good Governance and Democracy, Advancement of Economic and Entrepreneurial Development, Promotion of Human and Children’s Rights, and Advocacy for Youth Development and Participation in Africa through partnership with African public institutions, civil societies, regional and international development partners.

According to the Foundation’s Programme Lead, Dr. Kiki Olurore “as part of our Good Governance and Democratic values promotion agenda, GLEEHD Foundation is introducing this 2015 Election Forum Series to bring together political thought leaders, politicians, public servants, journalists, stakeholders and citizens to address issues that surround the 2015 Election in Nigeria”.

Also, speaking on the programme, Mr. Dayo Israel, a Director of the Foundation said “Given the dynamic nature of the upcoming elections and the developments that are bound to occur with a new administration, we are looking forward to what is sure to be an engaging discussion with distinguished panelists and invited guests, from experts on Nigeria’s political and economic conditions to authorities on the nation’s private sector relationships”.

“Stakeholders will discuss the key races, issues, and trends that will shape the 2015 elections and will offer insight into what to watch for on election nights. After the election, the series would feature stakeholders that would review the message passed by voters in the various elections”, He added.
Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Former Ekiti State Governor will speak on the theme “2015 Election: What has Faith got to do with it?” While Chief Rasheed Gbadamosi, Former Minister of National Planning and GLEEHD Foundation’s Trustee will chair the opening of the series on November 11th at the Alvan Ikoku Hall of the Dream Center, 8, Gbagada expressway, Anthony Oke, Lagos, alongside other notable discussants.

The symposium, according to the organizers “is expected to explore how Religion is playing a role in the forthcoming election especially in terms of choice of aspirants and party flag bearers”. Other themes to be discussed during the 12 weeks long series are National Security Priorities and 2015 Election, Foreign Policy and the 2015 Election, Emerging Leaders and the 2015 Election, 2015 Election: Detecting and Deterring Electoral Manipulations,  Tribunal, Supreme Court and the 2015 Election, Should the 2015 Election be militarized, Gender Priorities for the 2015 Election and more.

Expected at the Election series as Guests are Dr. Kayode Fayemi, Former Ekiti State Governor, Chief Rasheed Gbadamosi, Former Minister of National Planning, Chief Audu Ogbeh, Former PDP National Chairman, Mr Lanre Suraj, Chairman, Civil Society Network Against Corruption (CSNAC), Mr. Musiliu Obanikoro, Former Minister of Defense amongst others.

The event is free and open to all participants with a pre-registration to be done at the foundation’s website.
