AGGRIEVED aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Engineer Deji Doherty, Ambassador Tokunbo Kamson and Mr Babatunde Gbadamosi Wednesday resolved to close ranks and work with winner of the primaries, Mr Jimi Agbaje in the 2015 general election in Lagos State.
The parley, chaired by Vice-President Namadi Sambo was held at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.
It would be recalled that Senator Obanikoro had gone to Court to compel the PDP Leadership to cancel the primary.
Obanikoro’s insistence was based on a discrepancy in the number of delegates and number of votes cast at the primary that saw Mr Agbaje emerging as the party’s candidate.
PDP’ ‘ll defeat APC in Lagos –Sambo
The Vice-President expressed confidence that the PDP will defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State in the 2015 general elections.
He, however, warned APC governors to desist from claiming credits for projects executed the Federal Government.
Sambo said “President Goodluck Jonathan has sent me specially to thank you people in Lagos for the continuous effort in keeping the PDP as one in Lagos. I am delighted to know that we are more than ever before united to form a common front in realising our objective of not only capturing Lagos but winning all seats at all levels in the forthcoming 2015 elections.
The Lagos State PDP and indeed Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Engineer Deji Doherty, Ambassador Tokunbo Kamson and Mr Babatunde Gbadamosi who were our governorship aspirants have agreed to team up together and work to win Lagos this time around in 2015.”
Speaking further, the Vice-President said “Mr Jimi Agbaje, our governorship candidate has signified interest all along to work with our party members to deliver Lagos State. He is indeed humble to know the enormity of the task in delivering Lagos State and therefore appeals for total support by putting all hands on deck to realise the challenge that lies ahead of us. I will continue to pray that our party succeeds in this endeavour.”
He faulted the APC-led administration in the state for burdening Lagos with multiple taxation.
His words: “Lagos has for years been yearning for change from the burden of excessive taxation and squander, you all know about. The huge resources accruing to the state are used to the detriment of the good people of Lagos state. We are posed more than ever before to rescue Lagosians from the bandage and sufferings of taking back with the left hand and then, taking it away by the right hand.
This cannot continue, the time for PDP to take over Lagos State has come. The PDP is confident that it will win Lagos State, its presidential and governorship elections and all other elections across the board in Lagos state. The party has ensured the strict observance of democratic principles as all our candidates have emerged through a fair and democratic process.”
In addition, Sambo said “on our part, we have maintained our neutrality by encouraging aspiring candidates to go and seek the mandate of their people. The credibility of our governorship candidates is not in doubt.
The PDP is offering the people of Lagos their son, a full bloodied son and a gentleman per excellence, Mr Jimi Agbaje as our governor in February 2015 and we are confident that he will not let us down. I am calling on all stakeholders to emulate the spirit of the PDP in Lagos State because what you have done today is a good example to emulate by all other party members in the country.”
“We will continue to be united and be an indivisible family and a formidable force to the successful execution and ensure victory at the election in Lagos State,” he said.
Berating some APC governors for claiming credit on federal government’s projects, he said “I will like to mention part of the tricks of the opposition where some governors put their pictures on projects on newspapers.
In one of them, I saw the Lekki Deep Sea, this is a PPP programme where the Federal Government has large share with the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), the site of that Lekki Deep Sea port was the site where the federal government was to build a methanol plant. That methanol plant could not continue because we had spent over $200million on which has been converted to our share.
Apart from that the NPA is a 20 per cent shareholder and then the private sector has the largest share. Some states are claiming that it is their projects. Our own pictures are there and we are confident that anything that we print and show you, can be verified. I believe that the coming of our new governor, we will have realistic development in Lagos State.”
