ABAKALIKI—The crisis between Ebonyi State government and members of the state House of Assembly appears not over as Governor Martin Elechi has put modalities in place to conduct fresh local government elections.
Chairmen and councillors had challenged the local government polls on October 5, 2013, at the Court of Appeal against the ruling of Federal High Court, Abakaliki.
The Federal High Court had set aside the amendment of the state Electoral Act by the House and nullified the last local government election.
The court had nullified the election on the ground that the open ballot system adopted by Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission, EBSIEC, negated the right to individual privacy.
