Former military president, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida has called on government at all levels to fund other sports being regarded as lesser sports in order to bring more laurels to the country through sports.
General Babangida in a message to the closing ceremony of the maiden edition of the IBB annual open Badmiton championship organised by the state Badminton Association said if such attention accorded football was being given to other sports in the country, Nigeria would have been a country to be beaten even at the Olympics Games.
Represented by former Minister of Interior, Alhaji Abubakar Tanko, Gen. Babangida said the country has the potentials to excel in other sports and that what is needed to be done is to explore the potentials and groom them for National and International competitions.
The former President promised that the championship will go National from next year to further promote the game and also hunt for more talents.
