NFA fumes over Musa Mohammed disappearance

The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) has expressed displeasure with the disappearance of U-20 National Team captain, Musa Mohammed, from the U-23 National Team Camp in Abuja.

Mohammed had left the U-23 teammates on Wednesday in the Abuja camp where the team was in preparation for a crucial match against the national team of Zambia.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that NFA’s displeasure was contained in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

It said that the NFA General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, was displeased when informed about the `antics of the defender’.

Mohammed captained the U-17 National Team to a record, fourth FIFA U-17 world title in 2013.

He also led the U-20 to a seventh African title in Senegal in March.

“It will be an understatement for me to say the NFA is disappointed by the behaviour of Mohammed. This is someone who should be a role model for the Nigerian youth.

“He is very good at what he does and we love him for that but discipline is essential in any vocation.

“And the NFF will no longer condone indiscipline on the part of any player or coach of any of the National Teams,” it quoted Sanusi as saying.

According to the statement, Sanusi is unequivocal that Mohammed and anyone found to have aided his unwholesome conduct would face severe sanctions.

“The player had been drafted to the U-23 team because the coach believes he has something to contribute to bring glory to the nation.

“Whoever is found to be culpable in this shameful act will be punished,” it quoted the NFA scribe as saying.

However, Mohammed was not part of the 18-man list released by Siasia for the trip to Zambia.

The Dream Team will on Sunday seek to win a spot at the Men’s Football Tournament of the 11th All-Africa Games to hold in Congo Brazzaville.
