Kano Pillars captain Theophilus Afelokhai is hopeful the team can put their CAF Champions League heartbreak aside when they come up against Enyimba on Sunday.
The Nigerian Premier League giants were dumped out of the continental showpiece at the beginning of April after going down 5-2 on aggregate to Moghreb Tetouan.
Pillars will now return their focus to the Nigerian top flight, where they take on fellow NPL giants Enyimba at the Sani Abacha Stadium this weekend, and goalkeeper Afelokhai is hoping for a quick turnaround from the team.
“With due respect to other teams in the Glo Premier League, Pillars and Enyimba are the two big clubs in Nigeria and any game between the two sides will always be a cracker,” he told SuperSport.
“My teammates are looking forward to the game because we want to show our fans that they can still believe in us despite the problems of the last two weeks.
“This will be our second game in the league due to the unfortunate robbery incident. We beat Bayelsa United and I believe the same fate awaits Enyimba.
“We are battle ready for them, we won’t give up our title yet, the aim is to win it and get back into the continent so that we can apply the lessons we gained from our failure this year in the Champions League.”
