Leopards target a double over Wolves

It seems as though it’s the end of the road CAF Confederation Cup campaigners, Warri Wolves, as they lost by 3-0 away to AC Leopards of DR Congo in the first leg of the competition’s playoff on Sunday.

The Seasiders have never played in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage and a three goal deficit means it will be a tough task for Wolves in the second leg at the Warri Township Stadium.

AC Leopards coach, Lamine Ndiaye, admitted in a post-match chat that the job is almost done but insisted that qualification is yet to be secured.

“We must to prepare for the return match. We have two matches to play. One has been made today; it is left with the second leg. The qualification is not yet acquired. We must work to deliver a quality service in the return leg,” said Ndiaye

Warri Wolves can get inspiration from the heroic exploits of Sunshine Stars of Akure in the 2012 CAF Champions League when they lost 4-1 to RC Libolo of Angola in the first leg but came back home to score three goals that gave them the ticket to feature in the group stage.

AC Leopards, who knocked Enyimba out of the competition, have successfully shown Nigerian clubs the exit door in club continental competitions before now. Heartland and Kano Pillars can also attest to what the Les Fauves de Niari (the Beasts from Niari) are capable of.
