*Says search for Oshiomhole’s successor in progress
BY SIMON EBEGBULEM
TWO-time former governor of old Bendel State, Dr Samuel Ogbemudia, has urged Nigerians to see the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan as an investment in the long term inclusiveness and cohesiveness of the nation.
Ogbemudia, who broke his silence on the politics of Edo State, also hinted that the Edo Mass Movement, a political group across the three senatorial districts of the state, has names of credible governorship aspirants who will succeed Governor Adams Oshiomhole in 2016, adding that the group will vigorously campaign for the candidate who will be chosen among them irrespective of the political party the person may belong to.
In a statement signed by the elder statesman, he urged Nigerians to support the fight against insurgency embarked upon by Jonathan, saying that the doggedness which the President has exhibited despite the crisis he is encountering shows that he “is that President we all can trust”.
On his search for Oshiomhole’s successor, Ogbemudia said, “The sitting government of Edo State is also midway into its second term and final term. We now have some 18 months to prepare for our desired goal of electing a worthy successor to the Oshiomhole administration. It is therefore a good time to reveal the broad results of the background that have taken place during the period of my silence”.
Disclosing that the Edo Mass Movement, a dominant plank of the PDP in 1999, has been revived, he said: “The EMM has been equipped for consequential grassroots mobilization. It is work for President Jonathan’s re-election in February 2015.
