UMUAHIA — EIGHT governorship aspirants have been cleared to contest for the ticket of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2015 governorship election.

They are Chief Emeka Wogu, Dr. Uchechukwu Ogah, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, Chief Okezie Iheanacho Orji, Elder Acho Nwakanma, Chief Friday Nwosu, Ambassador Okey Emuchay and Chief Marc Wabara.

One aspirant, Dr. Greg Ibeh withdrew from the race while Senator Nkechi Nwaogu’s name did not feature either in the governorship or the senatorial contests.

This was announced, yesterday, by the state chairman of the party, Chief Emma Nwaka, while briefing journalists in his office.

According to Nwaka, 11 aspirants have been cleared to contest for the senate, including Governor Theodore Orji, who is the sole aspirant for Abia Central district, while Senators Uche Chukwumerije and Enyinnaya Abaribe are being challenged by four aspirants each in their Abia North and Abia South districts, respectively.

Fifty aspirants are contesting for the House of Representatives tickets, while a whopping 160, including, the first son of Governor Orji, Chinedum, will slug it out on Saturday for tickets for the 24 seats in the state House of Assembly.

Nwaka used the briefing to debunk the rumour that the governor’s son had been disqualified and tendered his clearance certificate before journalists to buttress his claim.
