NCC earmarks N11m for tennis competition

Lagos – Mr Tony Ojobo, the Director, Public Affairs of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), on Thursday said that the commission had earmarked N11 million for sponsorship of a Lawn Tennis Championship.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Lagos, Ojobo said that the venture was part of the regulatory body’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
He said that the money would be used as cash prizes for winners in the competition.

According to him, the maiden edition of the tennis competition, tagged ”NCC Tennis Cup,” is billed to take place in April.
He said that the competition would be managed by the International Tennis Academy (ITA).

”The objective of the competition is to positively engage tennis players and provide a platform to improve their game.
”It is to build interest in the sports, raise the standard of the game and contribute to the standard of the sport in the country.

”The objective is also to give recognition to tennis players, promote healthy competition across the country and help motivate youths to take up the game,” he said.

Ojobo said that the tennis competition was open to club teams, street teams and company/institution teams.

According to him, the winning team will get a cash prize of N5 million; the 1st runner up will win N3 million; the 2nd runner up gets N2 million, while the 3rd runner up will win N1 million. (NAN)
