The death toll from a suicide blast at a checkpoint near the northeast Nigerian town of Biu on Tuesday has risen to 36, a source at the town’s hospital told AFP.
“Now we have 36 dead and over 20 injured from the blast,” the source at Biu General Hospital said on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak to the media.
“Most of the victims were child vendors and beggars that usually crowd the checkpoint to sell wares and beg for alms,” the source added.
