Badagry (Lagos State) – Scores of residents of Badagry in Lagos State on Thursday rushed to Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) points to make last minute withdrawals, ahead of the presidential elections, slated for Saturday.
A correspondent in the town reports that the residents started queuing at ATM points at First Bank, Diamond Bank, UBA, Zenith Bank, Wema Bank and Skye Bank early in the morning.
However, the ATM point at Union Bank was not working.
Mr Wale Adebiyi, a father of two, who was at First Bank, told NAN: “I need money for the “upkeep’’ of my family.
“I do not want to be caught unawares so I am here to get money for the welfare of my family.
“The queue is long but I really do not mind in case the machines do not work.’’
A student, Mrs Toyin Olumiyide, said she came to withdraw money to travel.
“The queue is very long because of the restriction of movement on Election Day.”
Another resident, Mr Jeff Nweke, said that apart from the elections, the long queues might have been due to limited ATM points in Badagry.
“It is very frustrating staying in the queue but there is little or nothing I can do than to wait for my turn,” he said.
An official of Zenith Bank, who pleaded anonymity, said the bank had loaded its ATM machine for the third time today.
“The ATM machine had been loaded for the third time today because of the rush by people to withdraw money.
“We will do our best to satisfy our customers,” he said. (NAN)
