Reacting to the allegation that some producers collect what’s due to the stars from Multichoice for using their works without remitting the same to them, Chairman of the newly established Audio Visual Rights Society of Nigeria,AVRS, Mahmood Ali-Balogun said, he was not aware of anything like that.
According to him, “ I am not aware of what you are talking about. I think the terms of contract the producers enter into, with the South African company, Multichoice will determine their relationship. AVRS stands to protect the intellectual property owners regardless of whom they are .
We are presently doing enlightenment campaign, and we have not even engaged people who are using our works. I am not in the know of what you are talking about. AVRS is Nigeria’s sole collective management organization for cinematography films. Its sole objective is to enlighten stakeholders in the film and broadcast industry on the purpose, nature and operations of AVRS. He also said that the forum was held to explain to the stakeholders ‘their rights and obligations’
